What is Support your Crew? 

Support your Crew is a not-for-profit initiative run by the Support Crew and their Support Crew Foundation, a charity set-up to provide support services to communities in New Zealand.

The Support your Crew campaign provides a way for you to gift fuel, supermarket and SOS café vouchers to support our Essential Workers amid this Covid-19 disaster.

Organise a voucher now, because they need and deserve our support to continue to provide the services that keep us all safe.

Who’s considered an Essential Worker?

The following groups of people will be the recipients of the vouchers that we collect and distribute to:

  • Nurses
  • Doctors
  • Healthcare workers
  • Midwives
  • Disability Support Workers
  • Police
  • Fire and Emergency Services
  • Courier drivers
  • Supermarket/food service employee
  • NZ Post
  • Energy
  • Transport

Who will the vouchers go to?

If you organise a voucher for an Essential Worker, the voucher will be allocated to an Essential Worker in the area in which you live.  For example, if you live in Auckland, and you organise a fuel voucher, we will organise for a fuel voucher to be given to an Essential Worker living in Auckland so that the support you give, is provided directly to Essential Workers in your own community. Vouchers will be allocated and distributed on a first come first serve basis. Only 1 voucher per Essential Worker.

How will you know they’re an Essential Worker?

We will vet every registration and nomination to make sure that they are working as an Essential Worker or in isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic. 

What will each of the Essential Workers receive?

We’ll be collecting the cumulative voucher from New Zealanders, and we’ll be distributing $50 fuel, $50 supermarket and/or $50 SOS Café vouchers to Essential Workers across New Zealand.  

We’ll also be taking nominations and registrations to help identify as many Essential Workers across New Zealand as possible.  Vouchers will be allocated and distributed on a first come first serve basis. Only 1 voucher per Essential Worker.

When will the Essential Workers get the vouchers?

When you organise a fuel, supermarket or SOS Café voucher, we’ll then work our magic to pass on that voucher to an Essential Worker in your area.

We’re collecting a list of Essential Workers so that as soon as we get your gift we can pass on your vouchers as soon as we possibly can. We’ll also send a regular update of where the vouchers have been distributed to all those who have gifted to an Essential Worker.

Vouchers will be allocated and distributed on a first come first serve basis. Only 1 voucher per Essential Worker.

We’re in the process of identifying as many Essential Worker as we can, but we also need your help.  So if you can nominate an Essential Worker anywhere in New Zealand, then please nominate them here.

Plus, help us spread the word by sharing on social media so that we can find as many Essential Workers as we can.

How long will the voucher be valid for?

Fuel vouchers are valid for two years.  Supermarket vouchers are valid for 12 months.  SOS Café voucher are value one year from the date of purchase, or 6 months after we 'return to normal'… whatever that might mean.

How much of the money I gift goes to the Essential Workers?

All of it, less the fees charged through our Shopify store.

As the Support your Crew campaign is a not-for profit initiative run by Support Crew, all of the money, less the fees charged through the online Shopify store is used to purchase vouchers.  Support Crew is not trying to make any money here.  We’re just trying to support the amazing work that our Essential Workers are doing in our community, to keep us safe and in our homes during isolation.

How do I know this is legit?

It totally is.  The Support your Crew campaign is run by Support Crew and their Support Crew Foundation.

Support Crew was co-founded by Kelly Banks and Janine Williams and through their work with Support Crew, they have helped over 4,200 people give and get a hand over the last three years and now they turn their focus to supporting our Essential Workers through Covid-19.

The site is hosted by Shopify, the payments go through Shopify Payments or Paypal. Contact Kelly or Janine if you have concerns or suggestions.

Are you a charity?

Support Crew has the Support Crew Foundation, a registered charity, and we are currently looking into whether or not we can effectively and efficiently run this campaign through the Support Crew Foundation.

That means in the meantime, Support your Crew isn’t a registered charity and the initiative has been run through Support Crew Limited. 

Rest assured, all of the money, less the fees charged through the online Shopify store is used to purchase vouchers for Essential Workers.  Support Crew is not trying to make any money here.  We’re just trying to support the amazing work that our Essential Workers are doing in our community, to keep us safe and in our homes during isolation.

There are no profits from this project – all the proceeds go directly to the Essential Workers.  All the overheads, and other costs and time associate with this project are covered by Support Crew Limited.

I know an Essential Worker, how do I nominate them?

I've been nominated as an Essential Worker to receive a $50 voucher, but would rather someone else receive it instead of me?

Thank you for your kind gesture here. If you'd prefer someone else to receive the $50 instead of yourself, please just let us know via email at supportangel@supportcrew.co.nz. We'll then reallocate it to make sure the next registered or nominated Essential Worker on our list receives the voucher. Unfortunately at this stage, we can't donate the voucher or equivalent thereof to another charity or organisation, as the number of registered and nominated Essential Workers exceeds the number of vouchers gifted. 

I’m a business, corporate, organisation, Essential Worker employee and I’d like to support the campaign?

If you're a business, organisation, Essential Worker employee then we’d love to hear from you! 

You might want to consider purchasing vouchers for your staff, sponsoring or gifting vouchers for Essential Workers or helping us to spread the word so that we can reach more Essential Workers.

How will I know what’s been distributed to Essential Workers?

We’ll send a regular update of where the vouchers have been distributed to all those who have gifted them to an Essential Workers or check back here for the reports that we'll be posting.

Can I gift something else other than a fuel, supermarket or SOS café voucher?

We've focussed on those 3 vouchers for now, however if you’d like to gift one of our other products in our Give Store, then that would be amazing. The amount you see for our other products is the amount you’d have to gift. Please get in touch if you need help with this.

If I enter my details as an Essential Worker, are my details then passed on to the person who is gifting the voucher?

Absolutely not, we only use your details to send the voucher to you. Our Privacy Policy is in our Terms and Conditions, clause. 4 and 5. You can find them here.

What if I want to gift to someone I know who's an Essential Worker?

If you have someone you know whom you'd like to gift your voucher to, just let us know their name, address and contact details in the 'Add a personal note' section when you're checking out and we'll do our absolute best to make sure that the voucher goes directly to them.

Can I leave a message for an Essential Worker?

Yes!  That would be amazing!  Just leave your message in the 'Add a Personal Note' section when you're checking out and we'll be sure to pass on your message to the Essential Workers who receive the vouchers.
